The simple answer: with spoke nipples. These are small sleeves that are equipped with a thread inside. This must exactly match the thread at the end of your spoke. Spoke nipples often have a square shape on the outside that protrudes through the drill hole in the rim. The nipple can be turned on this, thus adjusting the tension of the spoke. In addition, they often have a slot for a screwdriver in the nipple head, which simplifies quick tightening of the nipple onto the spoke during lacing. However, there are also other nipple shapes, e.g., hex and square or Torx and square.
